Option A

Tabs + Mission Control home

The tab strip we already ship, untouched — but the pinned Home tab and the new-tab page become a founder dashboard: what needs you first, across every inbox, one click from acting on it.

How it works

  • The tab strip is exactly today's shell: pinned Home + one tab per open workspace, drag to reorder, middle-click to close.
  • Home stops being a bare account picker and becomes Mission Control: a cross-workspace "needs you first" digest, per-workspace cards with unread/awaiting counts, and Add a server.
  • The new-tab (+) action opens Home — so "new tab" and "where do I stand" become the same, familiar gesture.
  • Clicking a digest item or card opens (or focuses) that workspace's tab, deep-linked to the thread.

Assessment

  • Pros: zero new paradigm to learn; zero chrome added to the inbox; solves homepage, new-tab, and founder-overview in one page; smallest build (it's a redesign of the bundled home.ts page, fed by the IdP bootstrap + the per-tab unread poller the shell already runs).
  • Cons: the tab strip remains permanent vertical cost; overview is a tab you must visit, not ambient; tabs crowd beyond ~6 workspaces.
  • Best when: we want visible wins this quarter without touching the interaction model. Also the least surprising for users coming from browsers.
  • Shell notes: home.ts is already a bundled local page with a privileged preload; the digest needs per-thread metadata, which today's counts poller doesn't fetch — either extend the remote preload poll or add a small shell-facing endpoint to the tenant API.
