Terms of Service

Last updated June 2026

Plain version: the website is provided as-is; the software is governed by its license; the lifetime license is a one-time purchase.

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service govern your use of the tinbox.dev website and any purchase of a Tinbox license. By using the site or buying a license, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site or buy a license.

2. The software license

The Tinbox software itself is governed by its own license, not by these terms. That source-available license lets you self-host for your own mail at any scale, with two reserved rights: you may not resell Tinbox as a hosted or managed service to third parties, and you may not redistribute it white-labeled with the Tinbox name and built-in authentication removed. Everything else, including self-hosting at any scale and commercial use for your own organization, is granted. The full plain-language summary is on the license page.

3. The lifetime license purchase

The lifetime license is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There are no renewals, seats, or metered fees. It funds the project and adds:

  • The full readable source code, to audit and modify.
  • Direct support from the people building Tinbox.
  • Priority updates and early access to new features.
  • A direct support channel.

The price you pay is locked in for life. If launch pricing rises later, the license you already bought is unaffected.

4. Refunds

If you’re not satisfied, you can request a full refund within 14 days of purchase. Contact the support address on your receipt and we’ll sort it out.

5. Acceptable use

Don’t use Tinbox or this website to send unlawful spam, run phishing campaigns, or distribute malware, and don’t use them to break the law or infringe others’ rights.

Because Tinbox runs on your own Cloudflare account, you are solely responsible for your deployment: your DNS configuration, your sending reputation, and your compliance with the anti-spam and privacy laws that apply to the mail you send, such as CAN-SPAM, the GDPR, and their equivalents. We don’t send mail on your behalf and have no control over what you send.

6. Reserved rights

Two uses of Tinbox are reserved and require a separate license from us:

  • No reselling it as a hosted service. You may not offer Tinbox (or a fork) to third parties as a managed or hosted email service.
  • No stripped-down rebrand. You may not redistribute Tinbox with its name and built-in authentication removed and pass it off as your own product.

If either of those describes your plans, that’s a fine business, just contact us for a Hosting & OEM license.

7. The website

The tinbox.dev website is provided “as is.” We may change, suspend, or take it offline at any time without notice. The site may link to external resources, such as GitHub; we’re not responsible for the content or practices of sites we don’t operate.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Tinbox software and this website are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant any particular level of email deliverability or uptime: you run Tinbox on your own infrastructure, and those outcomes depend on your configuration and your providers.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of your use of the software or the website. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the license, if any.

10. The optional version check

Tinbox can perform an optional, best-effort check for a newer version that reads only a public version number (no identifiers and no telemetry) and can be disabled with TINBOX_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1. See the privacy policy for details.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the site or your license after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the Tinbox maintainers are established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
